Cold Worked Nitronic 60 · Nickel Alloys · Cobalt Alloys
Space Alloys USA manufactures precision cold worked round bar in the highest-strength austenitic alloys available. Supplied to aerospace, defense, medical, and energy sectors where failure is not an option.
Why Nitronic 60
Nitronic 60 is one of the most demanding alloys on the planet to cold work. We bought machines specifically to handle it.
Unlike steel, austenitic alloys cannot be heat treated for strength. Cold working is the only path to extreme mechanical properties — and the recipe is highly proprietary. Each diameter, each reduction level, requires its own precisely tuned process.
Our cold working process mechanically deforms the austenitic grain crystal structure, tangling the slip planes and dramatically increasing strength and hardness — while preserving corrosion resistance, non-magnetic character, and cryogenic toughness.
Why it can't be replicated easily: The IP is in the recipe. Achieving a certified strength level requires knowing the exact starting diameter and the precise degree of reduction. Every variable matters. Our team has built that knowledge from the ground up.
Product Line
Our flagship alloy. The highest-performance galling-resistant stainless available. Nitrogen and manganese additions produce interstitial strengthening even in the annealed state — and cold working pushes it dramatically beyond the austenitic properties while maintaining the austenitic structure. Available in annealed stock for immediate delivery or cold worked to specification.
Nickel superalloys like Inconel 625 and 718 are the standard for extreme heat and pressure applications in jet engines, turbines, and deep-well drilling. Space Alloys USA supplies these materials in cold worked round bar form, increasing tensile strength beyond what mill annealed properties can achieve.
Cobalt alloy L-605 delivers outstanding wear resistance and strength at elevated temperatures, making it ideal for surgical implants, heart valves, and high-cycle aerospace components. Cold working further increases its already impressive mechanical properties — without sacrificing its critical biocompatibility.
MP35N is a multiphase cobalt-nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy offering an exceptional combination of ultra-high strength, outstanding corrosion resistance, and excellent ductility. Cold working is the primary strengthening mechanism — each reduction level dramatically increases tensile and yield strength while preserving toughness. It is one of the few alloys that can achieve strength levels exceeding 300 ksi without sacrificing corrosion performance.
Manufacturing Process
Cold working is the mechanical reduction of a bar's cross-sectional area — forcing the metal through precision tooling without heating it. The austenitic grain structure deforms, tangling its slip planes and making atomic movement progressively harder. The result is a dramatic increase in tensile and yield strength that no heat treatment can replicate in these alloys. We certify material to actual mechanical properties, so engineers can design to real numbers — not conservative guesses.

Served Industries
High-strength Nitronic 60 is already in service on flight and space hardware where galling, corrosion, and temperature come together.
Annealed Nitronic 60 is specified by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for waterway applications and approved by the USDA for food processing equipment. Its wear and corrosion resistance make it indispensable in demanding flow environments.
Non-magnetic, biocompatible, and exceptionally strong — HS Nitronic 60 and cobalt alloys are ideal for the medical device industry where MRI compatibility, longevity, and strength intersect.
Any application requiring high strength in unlubricated metal-to-metal contact is a candidate for Nitronic 60. It also serves as a safe, high-performance replacement for hazardous beryllium copper in wear applications.
Our Competitive Edge
Our cold forging equipment — including the GFM SX-13 radial forge and Fenn rotary swagers — is selected specifically for the highest-strength austenitic alloys. Competitors learned the hard way that standard tooling can't handle these materials.
We sell by strength level with real, certified mechanical numbers. Engineers can spec our material with confidence — tensile, yield, hardness, and elongation on every heat. That's something generic suppliers simply cannot offer.
Achieving a consistent strength level requires knowing exactly how much reduction each diameter needs. That knowledge — hard-won through experience — is our IP. Each level has its own precisely tuned recipe, delivering repeatability batch after batch.
Annealed bar is a commodity. Our advantage is what we do to it — and how reliably we deliver it. We stock annealed material for fast turns and take production orders for cold worked specifications with clear lead times.
Our production process relies on automated precision machinery. Human inconsistency is designed out of the workflow, meaning every bar meets the same specification — from the first piece to the thousandth.
As defense and aerospace programs increasingly require domestic sourcing, Space Alloys USA stands ready as an Indiana-based manufacturer of record for high-strength Nitronic 60 and superalloy round bar.
